What is holm towers?

Holm Towers is a historic tower located in the town of Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. The tower was built in the 19th century by Samuel Sidney, a wealthy Londoner who wanted to create a hunting estate in the area. The tower was designed by architect Walter Newall and was completed in 1861.

The tower is constructed of red sandstone and stands at 30 metres tall. It has six floors and a spiral staircase with 105 steps leading to the top. The tower was used as a lookout point for the Sidney estate and was also used as a private residence at one point.

Today, Holm Towers is a privately owned property and is not open to the public. It is a protected building and is listed as a category B listed structure by Historic Environment Scotland. The tower is a popular landmark in the area and is often photographed and admired by visitors to Castle Douglas.
